花こう閃緑岩は、花崗岩と閃緑岩の中間的な性質の深成岩である。
およそ9000万年前、陸上では恐竜が歩きまわっていた時代に、地下深くでマグマがゆっくりと固まった岩石で、長い年月の内に押し上げられ、現在では秋田県中央部の太平山で見られる。
陸地の下には花こう岩類が広く分布しており、それを調べることで、陸地の下部構造やマグマ溜まりの中でなにが起きているのかを知ることができる。
Granodiorite is an intrusive igneous rock with properties in between granite and diorite. About 900 million years ago when dinosaurs walked the earth, deep under the earth's surface magma slowly hardened into rocks. Over a long period of time they were forced up and today can be seen at Mt. Taihei in central Akita.
Granodiorite is widely found underground. By researching it we can learn about what is occurring underground with its substructure and magma reservoirs.
